Our vision for a responsible future

When it comes to sustainability, we are eager to take our responsibility. We do this together; alongside colleagues, partners, and suppliers, we seek solutions to operate more sustainably. Step by step, we make a positive difference. We celebrate the successes we have already achieved and roll up our sleeves for the improvements to come. Sustainability is on our agenda every day, and we are achieving increasingly more sustainable results. And we are proud of it!

View our sustainability vision

Serge Timmermans, CCO of MCB, talks about the MCB Companies vision for sustainability.

Our sustainability initiatives

In recent years, MCB has implemented various measures to make our operations more sustainable, and we will continue to do so in the years to come. For example, the greening of our vehicle fleet and the installation of solar panels and LED lighting have contributed to an 8.2% reduction in our CO2 emissions in Scope 1 and 2 over the past three years.

In 2024, we will launch a new initiative aimed at making a significant contribution to our CO2 reduction in Scope 3: our CORE products and the associated green certificates. At the same time, we will introduce our PCF subscription (Product Carbon Footprint), which will provide a PCF certificate and a breakdown of CO2 emissions per order line, month, and year for each delivered steel, stainless steel, and aluminium product as standard.

MCB's sustainability themes

Within the MCB companies, we work on sustainability across four themes. For each theme, we implement activities to achieve sustainability goals. Curious? Check our theme pages below:

EcoVadis medaille

MCB is proud to report that we have received a silver medal from EcoVadis. With our score, we rank among the top 12% of all assessed companies in our sector. This certificate signifies that MCB scores well above average in all four themes: environment, ethics, labour and human rights, and sustainable procurement.

ICSR convenant for the Metal Industry

MCB was the first metal wholesaler to sign the international ICSR covenant for the Metal Industry. By participating in the covenant, MCB wants to further professionalize the actions it is already taking to reduce its environmental impact and contribute to the realization of a responsible metal supply chain.

"Together we will arrive at smart solutions. And knowing you, we certainly won't have to come up with them all on our own. So let us know your input and out-of-the-box ideas. About recycling, the use of hydrogen, shortening the supply chain, maintaining lower inventories, doing more things locally, and so much more…"
