Logistics & Transport
One of the four sustainability themes within MCB is logistics & transport. MCB has a strong focus on efficiency and customer orientation. With advanced systems and a comprehensive fleet, we ensure that our goods are delivered safely and on time to the desired destination. Through continuous innovation and optimisation, MCB aims to continuously improve its logistics processes while simultaneously providing sustainable solutions for a better future.

Greening of the fleet
In the sustainability of our logistics and transport, we have made significant progress in recent years. All our trucks comply with the Euro 6 standard, our delivery vans are fully electric, and 75% of our forklifts and pallet trucks are now electric. MCB employees can also use loan cars that are fully electric, and the shuttle bus of the Facilities Servicees runs entirely on electricity. All this electricity is generated by our own solar panels on the roof of one of our halls.
On board computers
In addition, we have invested in new onboard computers designed not only to guide drivers to their destinations, but also to choose the most environmentally friendly route. These computers are linked to the driving systems of our trucks and can measure factors such as the intensity of braking and fuel consumption during specific actions. All this data is collected and processed in a driver performance portal. Using this information, our drivers are trained to drive as efficiently as possible.
Through the tablet part of the onboard computer, customers can digitally sign and add any comments, leading to significant paper savings. Moreover, the advanced track & trace functionality ensures that our customers are always informed about the current arrival time, allowing them to adjust their schedules according to the actual delivery time. This initiative not only contributes to sustainability, but also enhances the efficiency of our operations.
Inland vessels
MCB collaborates with logistics companies to utilise inland vessels for transporting materials. Previously, materials were picked up directly at Antwerp using trucks, which required a significant number of trucks for loads ranging from 1000 to 3000 tons. Nowadays, we collect materials, for instance, from Maastricht, but only on the return journey after delivering materials to customers. This approach avoids empty truck runs. Hiring an inland vessel also reduces emissions by approximately 50% compared to using trucks.
