Together more sustainable with our new CORE-products
When it comes to sustainability, we like to take our responsibility. With the arrival of our CORE products, we make ordering greener products more accessible to all our customers. By choosing one of the three CO2-reduced CORE variants (-33%, -66% or -100% CO2 emissions), you can decide how much CO2 you want to save. For each purchased CORE product, you will receive a CORE certificate as proof of your CO2-reduced purchase (Scope 3). The obtained green certificates can be used for your sustainability reporting (Scope 3) and made available to your customers. In this way, we can collectively contribute to making the metal chain more sustainable. Are you in?

Our CORE products are essentially about the principle that we (MCB, suppliers and customers) can collectively contribute to reducing CO2 emissions in the metal chain. Through the MCB Carbon Bank, we can accelerate this process. By purchasing greener products, storing their CO2 reduction in the MCB Carbon Bank and linking this to green certificates for our CORE products, we can offer a complete range of greener steel, stainless steel and aluminium products at an attractive rate and with the same delivery guarantees you expect from us. In this way, we have already saved more than 21.000 tons of CO2.
How sustainable would you like to be?
Our CORE products are available in three variants for all our steel, stainless steel and aluminium products:
- CORE (-33% CO2 emissions)
- CORE XTRA (-66% CO2 emissions)
- CORE MAX (-100% CO2 emissions)
CORE is a contraction of CO2Reduction and characterises our mission to reduce our own CO2 emissions by 50% in Scope 1 and 2 by 2030 and by 50% in Scope 3 by 2035. Moreover, CORE stands for Circular, Original, Reliable and Environmental.
Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)
The foundation of the MCB Carbon Bank is the valuation of CO2 reduction based on the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF). To this end, all steel, stainless steel and aluminium products - relating to material handled via our head office in Valkenswaard - are provided with a PCF value that is tested and assured by DNV. Our PCF methodology is prepared in accordance with the GHG protocol for product life cycle accounting standard. It encompasses all stages of the production process up to delivery to our customers: from raw material extraction and production to the processing, storage and delivery of each product (Cradle to customer gate).
PCF subscription
With a PCF subscription, a PCF certificate and a summary of CO2 emissions per order line, per month and per year are issued as standard with every product delivered. You can use the overviews obtained from the PCF subscription together with the CORE certificates for your sustainability reporting, but also make them available to your customers.
-
CO2 emissions per product in an overview per order line, per month and per year
-
Certified PCF certificates by an authorised third party
-
PCF certificates can be used for your sustainability reporting and made available to your own customers
-
Incentive for internal sustainability awareness
-
Strengthening customer relations by providing transparent information
Wood4Wood: palletrecycling with green certificates
Our Wood4Wood programme seamlessly aligns with MCB's sustainability vision. By 2030, we aim to reuse at least 80% of our pallets. Therefore, we collect all pallets free of charge during the return trips of our deliveries. This can be done on demand or on scheduled pickup days. After inspection and any necessary repairs, the pallets are reused as much as possible.
Each quarter, you will receive a certified green certificate detailing the CO2 savings, which you can use for your sustainability reporting (Scope 3). In this way, we contribute together to the sustainability of the metal supply chain.
Global metal production accounts for 8% of total global CO2 emissions. Metal production has tripled since 1990 and is expected to increase by half by 2050. Recycling scrap metal alone will not be enough to meet increasing demand.
